Home Who I am What I do How I do it What people say

I'm Sue Grey CPDT (Certified Professional Dog Trainer), and I've been a dog trainer for over 16 years.  I've taught all breeds, ages, and sizes of dogs in both group classes and private lessons.  I've worked with clients in puppy training, house manners, all levels of obedience, controlling behavior issues, and more.  (Currently I do private lessons only).

I've studied basic obedience, behavioral problem solving, positive methods of training, motivation in training, aggression, agility, herding, flyball, frisbee, obedience showing, and training service and assistance dogs.  I've had the good fortune to study with internationally renowned trainers including Ian Dunbar, the Volhards, Karen Pryor, Gary Wilkes, Kathryn Haupt of Cornell University, and Gail Fisher, attending numerous workshops, lectures and seminars.

Competing Copper, my Australian Shepherd, in the obedience show ring, I've earned one leg of the AKC Companion Dog (CD) title.  Copper's also got her Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title and her Therapy Dog certification.  My previous dog, Callie, also attained a CGC and Therapy Dog certification and appeared in a William Wegman print ad and nationally-airing TV commercial.  I've authored an article for The Pet Gazette and appeared as a guest on Cablevision’s Pet Talk.

I've done volunteer work with dogs, hosting events for the Girl Scouts, volunteering at PAWS and Adopt-A-Dog events.  Copper and I participate in a reading with dogs programs at several local libraries.  For the past three summers, I've taught the very popular class "It's A DOG's Life" in the New Canaan Public Schools' summer enrichment program.

Prior to becoming a full-time dog trainer, I taught high school at Brien McMahon in Norwalk for twenty years.  That gave me a wealth of teaching experience which helps make me a skilled people instructor, as well as an experienced dog trainer.  I've also taught a number of people to become both teachers and dog trainers.

I'm a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and continue to further my education in many fields of canine training and behavior.
